MedTech.

Let's work together.

What is MedTech?

MedTech or Medical Technology is an exciting and rapidly evolving field that is transforming the way we diagnose and treat medical conditions.

Driven by advances in technology, it is enabling us to access better healthcare and improved patient outcomes.

In the UK, the MedTech sector is estimated to be worth £24 billion, making it a major contributor to our economy. It is also a leading employer of highly skilled professionals, with around 6,000 people working in the sector.

In Europe, the MedTech market is estimated at €115 billion and in 2018 the MedTech industry registered nearly 14,000 patents to the Europe Patent Office (EPO) which is the same number registered by Pharma and Biotech companies put together!

The MedTech Market in the United States has grown exponentially over the past few years, with the market size estimated to reach over $500 billion by 2026. With medical technology becoming more advanced, it is no surprise that this sector is experiencing such an increase.

Revolutionising Healthcare.

MedTech covers a wide range of activities, including the design and manufacture of medical devices, the development of healthcare software, the delivery of healthcare services, and the use of medical technology to improve patient care.

From AI-enabled robots and virtual reality to 3D-printed implants, MedTech is revolutionising healthcare. It is also playing an important role in helping to tackle the challenges posed by an ageing population, with innovations that allow us to manage conditions more effectively and improve quality of life.

In addition to emerging technologies, the use of mobile health apps is also making a huge impact. These apps are being used to monitor and track patients’ health, while also helping to provide better access to healthcare services.

Medical Devices

Medical devices are an integral part of modern healthcare. They enable medical professionals to diagnose, treat and monitor a variety of medical conditions and diseases.

From simple stethoscopes and thermometers that measure vital signs, to implants and prosthetics that restore mobility and quality of life, medical devices can be a life-saver for both patients and carers.

Advances in technology have allowed for the development of sophisticated medical devices such as robotic surgery systems, drug delivery systems and artificial organs. These devices can often be used to perform the same tasks as their human counterparts, but with a much greater degree of accuracy and precision.

Medical devices are an invaluable tool for healthcare professionals and patients alike. They can help to improve patient outcomes and quality of care, while also enhancing safety and reducing costs.

Medical Device Development Process

The Medical Device Development Process is a complex process that requires a great deal of technical knowledge and skill. It involves the creation and design of a new product from concept to prototyping, research and development, testing, manufacturing, quality control and regulatory approval.

At the start of the process, concept development is important in order to define the purpose of the device and create a concept document to help guide the design. This is followed by the design and development of the device, where a detailed design plan is created, and a prototype is designed and manufactured.

The device will then have to undergo clinical trials with the data analysed by biometrics teams. Quality Assurance and testing is then carried out to ensure the device meets regulatory standards and any necessary changes are made to ensure the device is safe and effective. Once this is complete, the device is ready for manufacturing and regulatory approval.

Once the devices have been approved by the relevant regulatory bodies it is ready to be taken to market by marketing and sales teams.

Medical Affairs.

Medical Affairs in the MedTech industry has become increasingly important as technology advances and patient care is enhanced. It is a field that enables healthcare professionals to collaborate with medical product manufacturers and regulators to ensure the safe and effective use of new and existing medical products.

Medical Affairs teams are responsible for providing timely, accurate, and evidence-based information about a product to healthcare professionals, including clinical information and education. They also provide clinical advice to the company in the development of products and provide support to regulatory bodies in their review of the product.

In addition, Medical Affairs teams must ensure that the products they are responsible for are compliant with applicable regulations and standards, such as Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and Good Clinical Practice (GCP). They are also responsible for conducting clinical trials to ensure the safety and efficacy of products.

Medical Affairs in the MedTech industry is an important role in ensuring patient safety and the development of new and improved medical products.
