We are proud to introduce DACH Director, Alexander Graf von Perponcher-Sedlnitzky

Growth for a company, whether they are in the middle of a global pandemic or not, is never a task to be rushed or deprioritised. It requires a mission that all employees, no matter their seniority want to be a part of and it is vital they feel valued regardless of their physical location.

iPharm Consulting is incredibly proud to announce that Alexander Graf von Perponcher-Sedlnitzky has joined our Munich, Germany team as a Director. This is an essential hire for iPharm Germany and one that will have a huge impact on their growth and continued success moving forward. It invites several questions and is a very prominent move to make during a time of uncertainty worldwide.

What is there to know about Alexander and his career:

  • He has 18 years of leadership experience
  • Alexander has interviewed almost 6,000 candidates over his career so far
  • He has visited at least 750 different companies across three continents
  • Alexander has recruited in 14 different countries
  • 13 years of recruitment experience, 9 years within international teams
  • Deep understanding of HR processes through their own experiences within a DAX Company

We took the time to interview Alexander and find out more about his reasons for joining iPharm, including what he feels he can bring to this position;

Why did you make the move to i-Pharm? Especially during a global pandemic, did that influence your move at all?

“I made the move because of the people. First of all, the vision of Colin and Stephen, the two Founders and their plan to see the pandemic as a chance to gain the right people and prepare the company for the time after the crisis is exceptional. It is very different compared to other companies and is the right way to approach everything. Now is the time to get started for the post corona era. I also share their beliefs in the potential of I-Pharm in the DACH-region. I-Pharm is amazing at creating and establishing relationships. It is now time to grow.”

What attracted you to i-Pharm in the first place?

“The chance to build and be a part of something special. So many consultancies promise to their employees that they want to create something and very often promises are not kept and can be very demotivating for people. At iPharm, we have not just a growth vision but we are living it. We have a concrete and clear path, and we are consistently looking for people with a passion to go on that road with us. Also, the chance to consult and advise people is important to me. In our sectors, we are not just recruiters. We offer our clients and candidates strategic advice for their needs in terms of the most important thing, the human capital. We see ourselves as consultants not just as a CV broker and middle man.”

What do you want to achieve in your new position? What will your influence be over the next 12 months?

“First of all, I want to continue this excellent onboarding. I will analyse the current situations, to get the necessary information, where and how we could improve and get to the next level sustainably but also with a sense of urgency. Our team has done a very good and successful job so far. My job is now to make them even better. Furthermore, we want to expand. My clear goal is to increase the headcount in Munich at least 25 % and I would like to establish a second office in Frankfurt within the next 12 months. We are leaning this strategy towards the people we could hire. We will always find a solution for long term success, not just a quick fix.”

What sectors/specialisms within life science will you be focusing on?

“I have had a strong focus on all positions in Procurement & Supply Chain and technical oriented General Management Functions. But not just within life science but also in Medical Devices Technology and the future of chemistry. As a team, we will also concentrate on all functions across the production of the product. R&D, Engineering & Manufacturing and TechOps will be our focus as well. We can truly say we can cover all technical and operational functions within the Life Science Industry and in Medical Devices.”

What can you bring to your new position that makes you unique from those at a similar experience level to you?

“I hope, that I am unique as a person! But besides that, I am not the Director to sit on the board table and watch others work. I always lead by example. I expect a lot but I give a lot as well, and I always expect what I am willing to give personally. I am a true team player and I never give up.”

On LinkedIn, you discuss topics such as sustainability, progression, innovation – why do these subjects resonate with you?

“Everybody talks these days about sustainability but do all of them follow this path? As recruitment consultants, we are keeping a strong focus on sustainability, in bringing the right people together. This is the gamechanger. Bringing people together is easy, but the right people, for the right jobs at the right time is crucial. To be the right consultant, we have to follow the developments in recruiting as well in the knowledge we have for our sectors.”

What aspects of your work experience and leadership/coaching knowledge will be vital in this role?

“In the beginning, my most important skill will be my ability to listen. Only when I listen to my team, I can then truly analyse the situation and make them better. I am a true fan of constant training. Training makes us better. Training does not a punishment. Cristiano Ronaldo trains every day even though he is one of the best players in the world. “Surviving” the crisis in 2008/2009 let me react not in a panic, even if the times are extraordinary. In 13 years of recruiting and 18 years of leadership experience I have probably seen almost everything in terms of success and failure as a leader.”

As an initial observation, where do you see the most progression and innovation taking place within life science?

“Not only in life science but it is digitalisation. Of course, it has a massive impact on Life Science. Imagine for example the information an apple watch could provide. Data is the new currency of life sciences innovation. Also, in terms of things like Machine learning or Artificial Intelligence we are just knocking at the door of the future.”
