Real World: i-Pharm Edition - With Billy Twomey

What's it like to be a recent joiner at i-Pharm? Well, we sat down with Billy Twomey on our MSP team who recently got promoted from Trainee to Consultant. Billy joined us in November and has shown us all how hard work and dedication pay off.

What initially attracted you to recruitment and why did you choose to work at i-Pharm?

Within the first 20 seconds of me speaking to Melissa, i-Pharm's internal recruiter, I knew that this was the place for me. When I came in for my very first interview, what stood out for me was the building, people and atmosphere that resonated in my original thoughts. My main motivator is to be in a happy, outgoing and supportive environment so, in my opinion, there was no better place to work.

How did you achieve your recent promotion to Consultant? What is your advice to consultants that are looking to take the next step in their careers?

I wouldn’t say there is one definitive reason as to why it came about. There is of course the wonderful Leah, Head of People at i-Pharm, who trained me in the Foundations training course in my first few months. This course focused on a wide range of techniques, approaches and, most importantly, how to be yourself, which is much easier said than done. There is a lot of hard work to be done in your initial few months and throughout, but adapting to different types of hard work and taking on new ideas to work in a smarter way has really motivated me.

How has your manager helped you achieve this promotion?

I am lucky to have two fantastic managers with two unique approaches helping me. One is more technical and one is more tactical. This is a great mixture and two dynamic approaches that I like to think I have adopted to create my own work ethic.

What training has i-Pharm offered you to support your personal growth to date?

Other than the initial intensive course with Leah, we have continuous support throughout each day. Whether it be call coaching, career coaching, or even something as simple as everyone in the company wanting to help each other to improve and bring skills from their own personal experience to you.

Recruitment has its challenges – how do you stay motivated?

I’m motivated by about a million and one things. The main motivator I have is to be respected and sitting feeling sorry for myself at work isn’t really going to do that for me. I also like taking on a variety of approaches and tasks in the day to keep my mind active. Plus, when you get to speak to different candidates across all countries, it’s very fun!

What advice would you give a graduate considering a career in recruitment?

Do it! If you think you’re good at talking to people and you don’t want a standard job where you can become complacent, Recruitment is the place! (If you’re willing to work hard).

Thanks for chatting with us, Billy and can we just say, you look great in that tux at our Christmas gala.
